BOA Live

The Brief

So, our final project before our major collaborative project taking place in Spring. We were tasked with creating a "magazine" show. Now, most of the class didn't exactly know what a magazine show was. We thought it was a show where hosts reviewed, well, magazines. Thankfully, this wasn't a case.

Magazine shows are akin to an umbrella term for things like variety shows. A magazine show will usually consist of an informative segment (such as the news). This is also accompanied by a lifestyle segment, a game show segment, multiple pre-recorded VTs, as well as the sheer crew capabilities to match. This was going to be an interesting challenge.

The Process

We got straight away into our groups. In fact, we worked in the same group as a previous multicam show we created, called [INSERT GAME SHOW TITLE HERE], which in hindsight acted as good practice for a full show. It did take some time for us to find our feet. In fact, it was pretty tough in the beginning to find some cohesion for what we were doing.

A pitch presentation definitely gave us a lot more motivation to get this show on the road. All of our ideas finally started to become cohesive; the role hierarchy among us became a whole lot more clear, and we finally had some sort of confidence to deliver on the brief. Eventually, over a few days, we were able to deliver on that.

The Result

We have our show! Now, naturally, it's an amateur production, and so our show didn't hit a full 100% of the criteria. We got a few VTs, a lifestyle segment, a performative segment and a whole lot of laughs. Albeit lacking of the more informative style of things, it set a precedent that, with the right people, you can make a multicam show (twice) that people enjoy and get a kick out of. Hopefully, you do too!
